Here’s my assessment:
Alaska — Dr. Al Gross
Al Gross is an orthopedic surgeon, a commercial fisherman, a Jewish Alaskan and an independent Senate candidate who will caucus with Democrats. He’s running a campaign heavy on health care — very pro-Obamacare — and recently has been attacking his opponent (incumbent Republican Senator Dan Sullivan) on environmental issues. There isn’t much polling, but what there is shows a race that is unexpectedly tied.
Alabama — Senator Doug Jones
Two years ago, Doug Jones became the first Democrat to represent the deep south in the US Senate in 25 years. He did this by defeating Roy Moore (the pedophile) in a special election and due to his reputation among African-American voters; Jones brought long-delayed justice to Alabama through his successful prosecution of two Ku Klux Klan members for the 1963 Birmingham church bombing that killed four African-American girls.
